Slingshot 3.5 released

RequestBite's API catalog

Today we're introducing the beta release of RequestBite's public API catalog. It's currently powered in its entirety by APIs.guru, a wonderful online service that provides a free and open directory of REST APIs. It allows you to search for OpenAPI specs directly from within Slingshot and import them into the API client with just a few clicks.

APIs in our catalog

The catalog contains some 2,500+ APIs in 34 categories that you can either browse through or search in. Even though you now have easy access to a vast array of APIs right from within Slingshot, this is of course only the beginning. We're now working hard on add the ability for anyone to submit APIs to the catalog and to simplify adding necessary credentials for APIs requiring authentication (i.e. almost all).

Not only that, the catalog is obviously powered by a REST API itself. It's currently undergoing active development and will thus see several breaking changes in the near term, but as soon as it has stabilized, we aim to properly document it and add it to the catalog for public consumption as well.

Get started

To get started, do like this:

  1. In Slingshot, click Catalog in the top menu bar.
  2. In the search filed, type apis.guru.
  3. Click the search result in the dropdown and you will see details about the APIs.guru API.
  4. Click Import in the upper right corner and either YAML or JSON.
  5. Click Import in the modal that shows up.
  6. The API spec of APIs.guru (that powers our API catalog) will now be imported into Slingshot and you can now browse their API catalog with ease.
